About this Guide

Spring Fever!

Spring is in full bloom and it has been challenging to stay on task and keep making videos with the birds chirping and rainbows on the horizon.  But we are inspired by the amazingly positive student response and support from the first week of class.  We are making this work!

Additional videos on the Skeletal System

We’ve been asked how to inexpensively acquire materials for homeschooling for a personal collection.  One of the best ways to collect models about the human body is to locate “pharmaceutical” models from eBay or thrift stores.  This video has an example.

Portfolio Ideas

Add your own art to your portfolio to express your view of human biology.

Paper art, like collage and pop-ups, is a fun way to make a portfolio interactive.

If you are homeschooling, consider varying the sensory forms of learning materials to form more quality memories.

Behind-the-Scenes

We prefer shooting videos & photos in natural light if possible, but the weather this week has definitely not been cooperating.

We’re having a blast with new models.  Where were all of these amazing toys when I was a kid?

Bring on the models!

We are borrowing school models for videos, and when combined with our own models, we can demo almost anything.

Picnic Bench

Our “outdoor studio” is comprised of two picnic benches and several plastic chairs that we can move with the light.

Rock Collection

When is the wind going to stop? Luckily we have a substantial rock collection, and it finally has a purpose :).

Tripods

Our earliest videos were too shaky, so we now have multiple tripods: a taller one for standing and table-height work; a small one for close-in work.

Anatomical models are right at home with sculptures.

Recommended Books

This book is pure gold: exploring the significance of muscle in species survival over time.

If you are seriously into muscle building, its worth while learning a bit about exercise physiology.

Practical safety applications of organ system knowledge.

Build a Library

Whether its digital or print, collect resources that assist in exploring, describing, and explaining the natural world.
