Back to School
Remote teaching needs to be engaging; both educational and entertaining. We’re competing with all of the other possible windows you can have open on a device. So this has been a good opportunity to re-examine what we select to teach and the various ways people are interacting with course material. Some things have remained in the course, but many things are new or significantly re-vamped.
This means we are re-learning the material, looking for practical applications and things students can recreate in their own unique learning locations. Usually I study lecture and lab material in advance of teaching and take careful note of what I will say or do, but now we are shooting a dozen or more mini lectures, demos, and activities at a time. My normally neat materials have become scribbles on the back of an envelope. But this is so much fun! I wish I had enjoyed learning this much when I was a student; now I’m finally ready to head back to school.
