Incredibly Fortunate
I am very thankful to have a job and minimal obligations so I can focus on work. It is heartbreaking to hear about local small businesses closing, possibly for good, and people having to give up on their career dreams. For many of us work is a pleasure and part of our personal identity.
I’ve heard that you need to keep work separate from hobbies and vacations because it can become all-consuming, and if you lose your job, the loss could be too great. Personally, I think if you can weave the things you enjoy into your career you are really lucky and will be happier while the job lasts.
But I certainly feel for the people who are losing the livelihoods they love. Hopefully their positive spirits and work ethic will reconstitute into new dreams. It still has to be better than seeing work as a drudgery or less interesting than other parts of life. I know I am going to enjoy every moment of teaching, as long as it lasts.
