About this Guide

Bring it!

This week is the portfolio update and if you haven’t already caught on; this portfolio is as much for you as something to add into a course grade.  Your time is valuable and it is always worth doing something that shows what you are capable of.  We are over half way there and the best lies ahead.  Bring it on!

Search for Patterns

Our brains are constantly searching for patterns.  Many games, including popular video games, reward pattern recognition and excite with new variations on familiar themes.  Find out which patterns appeal to you.  Many “personality tests” attempt to sort preferences and behaviors into categories.  See if you agree with the results, even if you don’t, you may find patterns to enhance and seek out, or patterns to avoid.

Additional Videos

Sometimes the first attempt just isn’t the winner.  Here is the first try at a synapse video.  It didn’t have errors, we just wanted to see if we could do better.

This reflex arc video was just a bit dark and shaky.  If we have time, sometimes, we need to try a different location or equipment.

Behind-the-Scenes

new toys
Some Assembly Required

We are getting plenty of cool used models from Ebay; but occasionally I splurge and get something new from Amazon.  The downside is that everything seems to arrive in pieces with vague directions.

Sensory Garden

Looking for gardening ideas in a small space?  How about a garden geared towards a specific sense?  Fragrance, sound (water garden), taste (fruits, vegetables, and/or herbs), smell, or touch/texture.

Many of us have middle ear infections as children as that part of the ear finishes development after birth.

les art

Some things take studying and practice, like shooting videos for this course.  If you can make studying a game, with a built-in reward system, it is amazing what you are capable of learning.  If only I had enjoyed learning this much when I was a student!

Digging Ditches
Digging Ditches

In between video edits, Mark is digging hundreds of feet of trenches for water lines since our garden is a long way away from the nearest spigot.

If we turn our back on the land, the invasive Himalayan blackberries seem to pop up everywhere. Plenty of weed management in our (Mark's) future.

The nice thing about being in one place over years (or decades) is seeing bushes and trees grow a bit every year. Seems to put everything in perspective.

blazie

Blaze ate my homework, well at least he chewed up my portfolio cover.  He is a dumbo-ear male rat with four brothers, and just too sweet to get mad at.

uschi pop

Uschi just got his stitches out after an emergency surgery, and he is enjoying watching the peat pots pop up with water.
